Creasidence is a global accelerator in the creative industries. We work to empower passionate creators to strengthen their most valuable asset — themselves. This Zine is a result of the Creasidence Workshop in Seoul done collaboratively with OMSCIC COMICS and JJOKKPRESS. For 2 days, Artists from various fields experimented with 4-panel comics form — with OMSCIC as mentor and facilitator.

OMSCIC COMICS:

Last summer, the results of the 〈4-Panel Comics Workshop: Playing, Dancing, Fighting, and Conspiring with Panels〉 held at SPINE SEOUL were finally gathered into a single zine and published. Over the course of two days, participants played, danced, fought, and conspired with panels, each exploring their own themes.

When the same story had to be applied to a different form, creation began to branch and root itself in entirely unexpected directions. Although the time was short, those directions and energies connected everyone within the workshop.

As the “facilitator,” this was my greatest harvest and the true meaning I found in it— that through the condensed creative network of the workshop, we were able to revisit the value of comics-making, or more broadly, creation itself. The sharp edges of individuality met and resonated under the protective layer of “artistic form.” Above all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all participants who courageously opened certain facets of their individuality and transformed them, within such a compressed time, into something profoundly comic. Here, the word comic is especially important. That “protective layer” I mentioned earlier is none other than our shared affection for comics itself.

Once again, my heartfelt thanks to all participants, as well as to Creasidence and SPINE SEOUL (Jjokpress) for making this possible.

지난 여름, SPINE SEOUL에서 열린 **〈4컷 만화 워크숍: 칸과 놀고, 춤추고, 싸우고, 협잡하기〉**의 결과물이 드디어 하나의 zine으로 묶여 퍼블리싱되었습니다.

이틀간 참가자들은 각자의 주제를 탐구하며 칸과 함께 놀고, 춤추고, 싸우고, 협잡했습니다.

같은 이야기를 다른 형식에 적용해야 할 때, 창작은 전혀 예기치 못한 방향으로 가지를 치고 뿌리를 내리기 시작했습니다.

짧은 시간이었지만, 그 방향성과 에너지는 워크숍 내부의 모두를 하나로 연결시켰습니다.

‘진행자’로서 제가 얻은 가장 큰 수확이자 의미는 바로 이것이었습니다 — 이 압축된 창작의 네트워크를 통해 우리는 ‘만화 만들기’, 더 넓게는 ‘창작’ 자체의 가치를 다시금 되새길 수 있었습니다.

각자의 개성이 지닌 날카로운 면들이 ‘예술 형식’이라는 보호막 아래에서 만나 서로 공명할 수 있었던 것이죠.

무엇보다도 짧고 밀도 높은 시간 안에서 자신의 개성의 어떤 측면을 용감히 열어 보이고, 그것을 ‘만화적’으로 승화시켜 준 참가자분들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

여기서 말하는 ‘만화적’이라는 단어는 특히 중요합니다. 제가 앞서 말한 ‘보호막’은 다름 아닌 ‘만화’에 대한 우리의 애정 그 자체이기 때문입니다.
